Coppernico Metals (TSX: COPR) announced on 10 September that its Peruvian subsidiary had contracted AK Drilling for at least 5,000 metres of diamond drilling at Sombrero. Mobilisation remains subject to the Ministry of Energy and Mines’ start-of-activities authorisation. No subsequent company announcement confirming commencement was identified by this article’s 24 September review. Source: company announcement; 2026 release list.
IIR perspective: a drilling contract establishes a practical element of programme readiness. It leaves separate questions about authorisation, commencement and the geological information the work will produce. The appropriate follow-through is evidence that each stage has been completed, with timing and expenditure explained when plans change.
When results arrive, readers should examine the position of each hole, the geometry of mineralisation and how intervals fit the wider interpretation. The strongest reported intercept alone does not show whether a deposit has continuity, scale or an economic development route. Programme funding also needs to be assessed against the work required for the next decision, rather than against a general description of the company as funded.
