Who we are
Independent Investment Research (Aust.) Pty Ltd is an independent investment research house headquartered in New York with a global presence across Denver, Hong Kong, Sydney and Melbourne. IIR delivers fundamental research across global equities, managed funds and listed managed investments to wholesale clients including financial advisers, institutional investors, family offices and other qualifying professionals.
IIR was founded by Mamun Rashid, Founder and Global CEO, whose career spans more than 30 years across law, accounting, investment banking and financial services in Australia and the United States. IIR’s research operations across both jurisdictions are led by Mike Sheikh, Global Head of Research — USA & Australia, and its global metals and mining coverage is led by Gavin Wendt, Global Head of Metals & Mining.
Independent by Design
IIR does not undertake corporate advisory, capital raising, asset management or securities dealing. Research conclusions are formed independently of any commercial relationship with covered entities.
Methodology
IIR applies a fundamental analytical framework across all coverage areas, including assessment of management quality, financial structure, earnings quality, competitive positioning and valuation relative to intrinsic value estimates. Ratings and recommendations are reviewed at least annually and updated following material developments.

Mamun Rashid is the Founder and Global CEO of Independent Investment Research, with more than 30 years’ experience across law, accounting, investment banking and financial services in Australia and the United States. He established IIR to provide independent research free from brokerage, securities-dealing and investment-banking conflicts.
Mike Sheikh
Global Head of Research — USA & Australia
Mike Sheikh is IIR’s Global Head of Research — USA & Australia. He leads the firm’s research operations across both jurisdictions, with responsibility for research standards, coverage governance and the consistent application of IIR’s research methodology.
Gavin Wendt
Global Head of Metals & Mining
Gavin Wendt is IIR’s Global Head of Metals & Mining, with more than 25 years’ experience covering the mining, metals and energy sectors. He has held senior roles with Intersuisse, Shaw Stockbroking and Fat Prophets and leads IIR’s global metals and mining research coverage, sector analysis and research output. Gavin is also the founder of MineLife, an independent mining and energy research publication.
